May Day

May Day is the first day of May. It is celebrated in many places around the world. The traditions and stories surrounding May Day from place to place may vary. There is, however, one thing that is similar in most celebrations--the use of flowers.

One of the most popularly known May Day traditions is to hang a basket full of spring flowers and /or other small gifts on a neighbor's or friends doorknob. The trick is that you don't want the neighbor or friend to see you! If you do get caught, you are supposed to get a kiss!!!!!!!!

Be creative!!!! Use decorative cans!!

Or use canning jars!!!

This is one of my favorites!!!

This container is made from chicken wire and ribbon.

Form a cone shape from a triangle of chicken wire; bend the ends of the wire to secure. Weave taffeta ribbon down one side of the basket and up the other, leaving lengths on each end to tie into a handle. Weave more ribbon down the sides, tucking one end inside the top of the basket, and gathering the tails at the bottom with thread. Fill with sweet peas, tucked into florist's vials filled with water.
ooh la la!!!!

This is my flower fabric bag which has a plastic liner. It's great for holding water. I will be carring these in my shop! Just fill with water and place your fresh cut flowers in it. Use it to give fresh flowers to someone, hang it on a door knob to welcome your guests, keep it in the car to use for cuttings.

Have fun!!!

Happy May Day!!!!
